Making Space Exhibition - Shoot City Winners On Display

We visited the Making Space exhibition in Spitalfields today. The winning entries for the Shoot City competition on September 30th were shown alongside some very good work by people who’ve been exhibiting for years, including members of the in-public.com group.

Earlier this year I took part in a workshop at Tate Modern that was run by 4 members of the in-public.com collective of street photographers, including Matt Stuart, Nick Turpin and Nils Jorgensen. Some of Matt’s, Nick’s and Nils’s photographs was on show at the exhibition, alongside stacks of good work about London’s open spaces. In Public’s write-up of the show is here.

We also met up with Brett, who runs Shootexperience, and chatted a bit about their future plans. They’ve been going for a year now and international expansion sounds like it’s on the cards. Their next event is on October 21st: Shoot Brixton.

I haven’t had my work shown in an exhibition before, and it was really great to see this, especially as the work was hanging with some of the photos of the people who were running my Tate workshop.

The best of the photos we took at the Exhibition are at http://gallery.markhopwood.com/main.php?g2_itemId=841&g2_navId=x43e38349
